Marissa Carter, AMFT

Hi, I'm Marissa
I am committed to creating a safe and nonjudgmental environment where clients are recognized as the experts of their own lives. My therapeutic approach is LGBTQ+ affirmative, sex-positive, and relational, with a collaborative focus at its core.
I have extensive experience supporting individuals and couples while they navigate:
-
Relationship conflicts and communication
-
Sexual intimacy issues, expectations, and exploration
-
Non-monogamy, polyamory, and nontraditional relationship structures
-
Kink/BDSM
-
Gender identity and sexual-orientation exploration
-
Chronic pain
-
Anxiety and depression
-
Existential dilemmas
With a passion for providing therapy through a feminist, multicultural, and non-pathologizing lens, together we will continually examine the systemic structures that influence and shape mental health. I focus on supporting clients as they explore their values, core beliefs, and relationship dynamics while empowering them to take an active role in effecting meaningful change.
I graduated from Antioch University with my Master’s degree in clinical psychology and completed my clinical traineeship at Southern California Counseling Center, where I worked with a diverse range of clients. I’m supervised by Sierra K. Briscoe, M.S., LMFT (#129471). I’m currently accepting new clients virtually. I look forward to hearing from you!
